SSL 2nd Round clay target shoot hosted by Kingswood at Quainton on 11th January 2015
Kingswood hosted the Sunday Sporting League shoot on Sunday 11th January at our Quainton shooting ground. The shoot was set up on the Saturday by Jim, Mark and Bob Spademan. Minor criticism of the previous SSL hosted by Kingswood was that there had been no targets at a distance, they had all been close. Criticism taken on board, and the shoot was made somewhat more difficult. There were stands where you had to be quick, many shooters missing all the birds, to prove that they were all hittable I saw Chris Cherry straight that stand. Yes it was a testing 8 stand shoot with a few comments that the clays were unbreakable.
The weather was kind, during setup on the Saturday it was very windy, luckily the wind had died down a little for the Sunday shoot. All the traps had to be reset and realigned for the new wind speeds on the Sunday morning.
There was no rain, the ground was still hard despite the previous weeks rain, the sun was shining (not in your eyes). The catering van had arrived and was operational. What more could we ask for? Two years ago this shoot had to be suspended when a snow blizzard made the orange clays invisible. Difficult to hit and impossible to score.
The order of results by club were, Crown (272), Akeley (265), Kingswood (253), Nags Head (248), White Lion (242), Marston Marauders (203). We are now tied 3rd with the Nags Head in the overall results.
Kingswood had success with our Jenny Goss tying with Lisa Luff to High Lady gun with a credible 26 on a demanding shoot.
Kingswood top 8 scores are
Graham Hill (41) Mark Hill (33) Peter Bickmore (31) Steve Cox (31) Geoff Ewers (30) Paul Thomas (30) Jim Goss (29) Andy Evans (28)
Full results can be read here.
The next SSL shoot is at Akeley on the 8th February.
