Practice Shoot at Doddershall 4th June 2023
The weather gods smiled upon us today. The sun shone brightly, and the easterly wind was not as biting as it had been in previous days. In fact, it was so mild that a few people were even dressed in t-shirts.
We gathered at the English sporting layout, which was in excellent condition. There were six stands, including a practice stand where we could try out our shots without scoring any points.
As an extra reward, we were treated to home-baked cake for our tea break. It was the perfect way to break up the shoot.

Practice Shoot at Quainton 16th April 2023
We returned to our Quainton shooting ground for the first time since June of the previous year. The journey to the ground was not affected by the HS2 roadworks. Many commented on the excellent quality of the road surfaces where HS2 vehicles have to travel. The shooting on the site is now limited, we can only shoot from the old railway embankment, towards the East over the fields. The field conditions determine whether we can shoot from the bank or the field. Today the fields were very wet, so only a limited number of traps were placed on the field, each requiring manual relocation up the embankment at the conclusion of the shoot. With improved field conditions we can provide more variety with incoming targets and low flying crossers. Nevertheless, it was an interesting and different shoot with a distinct set of targets. The scores were higher than usual for everyone.

Good Friday Shoot
We decided to ditch the Easter eggs and go for some clay pigeons instead. The Sunday 2nd shoot was too soggy, so we moved it to Good Friday when the fields were less like a swamp. We had a blast with a 50-bird sporting layout of five stands. And guess what? Three of the stands were super sporting. That means more clay machines, more targets, and more chances to show off your skills (or lack thereof). Super sporting is not for the faint of heart. It will test your limits, your patience, and your sense of humor. But it’s also a ton of fun.
We were so hungry after shooting all those clays that we drove like mad to Ludgershall and barged into the village hall. There we stuffed our faces with fish and chips from the van, and some wickedly delicious puddings. We also got some easter eggs as prizes, but we ate them too. We owe a big thanks to Brian, Tractor John, Wally and maybe some others for setting up a cracking shoot. And also to Dawn, Shirley and Celia for putting up with us and feeding us the great food.
The scores.

Practice Shoot at Ludgershall 19th February 2023
A lovely dry sunny day with a light wind saw us back at Ludgershall for a shoot. Good turn out and a new possible member. Alas he arrived late because the location instructions on the website were pointing to the old Ludgershall shooting ground. These have been corrected.
The scores on an an easier shoot that our previous shoot saw many scores in the forties with Mark H making a 46.
